Independent Travel Training Starts in Norfolk
Our newest scheme is taking shape in the rural county of Norfolk providing support and training to young people with special educational needs and disabilities enabling them to start travelling independently. HCT Group are working in partnership with Norfolk County Council to support young people’s progression to independence. Niki Park, Senior Passenger Transport Manager, said “We are delighted to have HCT Group working with us on this exciting initiative to enable young people to travel independently; not only to school and college but also to help them access other activities and social opportunities in the future”.
The scheme offers a daily home to school training journey over a number of weeks utilising skilled travel trainers supporting and teaching young people how to complete their journey safely and enjoyably; with each young person being matched with a trainer who will support them throughout. Additionally, trainers will aim to support personal development and build confidence to help young people access a diverse range of opportunities in the future.
Initially the scheme will focus on, but not limited to Norwich and it is hoped that over the next 5 years to branch out as much as possible across the county. Of course, with Norfolk being over 2000 square miles in size this will be a challenge; however, the aim is to utilise opportunities for bus and train journeys as well as pedestrian skills where practical and logistically possible.
February is the start date to offer young people training and if you would like more information please contact Karl Chapman. Email email@example.com or telephone 01603 222707.
