Daud’s Story

Daud wanted more confidence and independence from Travel Training. He can now go to the gym and out and about in London. Being a London Bus Driver is now an option for his future career!

Talking about his Independent Travel Training experience, Daud said ‘Before Travel Training I used to get on the minibus to school, now I get on two different buses. I wanted to have a big change, make a big change to myself. I wanted to be confident and independent in myself. It was really important for me. Now I can go to the gym and out to other parts of London. I like going to places like the BAFTAs, I get dressed up smart and I have to turn up really early and then I get my photograph taken on the red carpet and I go and take selfies with celebrities. The Teen Choice Awards are coming up in Hyde Park and I’ll go to that and do the same.

‘In the future maybe I would like to be a London Bus Driver; I’d like to drive one of the new hydro buses. It’s a smooth ride. I want to do my theory test, and my practical test. Or I would maybe work in the media, something like acting or radio journalism.

‘If I hadn’t done Travel Training I wouldn’t be independent. It would be boring, very boring - I wanted off (the minibus).’

Daud’s parent has also seen the impact, saying ‘He always wanted to go by himself, all the time he asked to learn to go by himself. Now he’s much more confident and so happy, always so happy. He always wanted to go places by himself and now he can. I would say to other parents that it’s good for your child, especially if you can’t go with them or if they really want to be all by themselves.’
